In the year 2003 the legendary Gaisberg race celebrated its revival. The Gaisberg race was part of the European championship of Mountaineering between 1929 and 1969. The first rave on the 8th of September 1929 had 83 contestants among them Rudolf Caracciola, Manfred von Brauchitsch and mountain king Hans Stuck. In the following years famous racers like Luigi Faglioli, Carl Felice Trossi, Wolfgang Graf Berghe von Trips, Jean Behra, Jochen Rindt, Rolf Stommelen and Niki Lauda take part in the competition for the victory on the Gaisberg.
Today the Gaisberg race is especially favoured by vintage car drivers. The pilots of the historic cars from Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Mercedes, Bentley, Rolls Royce or MG are often guests in the hotel Kobenzl – as official partner hotel of the Gaisberg race the drivers and cars are granted special attention.
