Hellbrunn – palace and trick fountains
Archbishop Markus Sittikus had the palace and the trick fountains Hellbrunn built in 1615 – not as residence, not as hunting residence, no, Hellbrunn was simply planned as pleasure palace. What used to be only for lords and archbishops is no open to the public: Take a walk through the spacious baroque park, be entertained by the trick fountains, view the exotic flowers in the Orangerie, enjoy the amazing view from the “Monatsschlössl”, play on the playground or visit the “Steintheater” (stone theatre).
Salzburg’s zoo – Hellbrunn
Adjoining the palace Hellbrunn you will find the Hellbrunn Zoo. Native and exotic animals are kept close to their natural surroundings. The natural scenic attraction of the Hellbrunn mountain – rock walls, sheer slopes or a meadow serve cats of prey, rhinoceros, bears, brumbies, monkeys and alp-animals as a home. The attractions: The tropics-house, the vulture –feeding, the cheetah-feeding or the petting zoo. In the summer time the zoo is also open in the evening. The zoo at night offers a new zoo-experience for the whole family.
